Surabhi Khanna conducts design courses and electives as invited/ visiting faculty. Some of them are as follows:
1) “Developing Installations inspired by ingenious toy designs”
Elective sessions by Surabhi Khanna for 4th year architecture students at SPA (School Of Planning & Architecture, new Delhi, India)
” Developing Installations inspired by ingenious toy designs ” Elective sessions by Surabhi Khanna for 4th year architecture students at SPA (School Of Planning & Architecture, new Delhi, India)
The elective started with introduction to heritage based toys and an introductory workshop to making a classical traditional toy. The students exhibited their playful installations at “Utopia” – the student festival. The course had a great impact on design understanding of students. The students got a wider understanding of design approach and opportunities. What was thought to be an unstructured course by students, was realized to be a very well planned and structured one without revealing them the structure so as not to hinder with their creative flow of ideas and approach.
2) “Toy Design Workshop : Nature Inspired”
at IIT Kanpur design post graduate program in march 2014 by Surabhi Khanna along with Prof. Sudarshan Khanna for Dr. Koumudi Patil’s course related to Form & Design.
The design workshop involved taking an inspiration from nature but converting features to playful design products. Around 25 students from backgrounds of engineering, applied arts etc., participated . It was a very rigorous yet interesting exercise, where design perspectives brought out different design approaches. The outcome of the session was in form of working prototypes to give a clear idea of interactive play. The design module was originally initiated by Prof. Sudarshan Khanna at National Institute of Design (NID) for Industrial Design courses. At IIT Kanpur, the module gave remarkable outcomes.
3) “Indo-Thai Workshop on Global-Local Culture-Based Design”
Sushant School of Design (SSD – Product Design), Ansal University, Gurugram, India organized Indo-Thai Workshop on Global-Local Culture-Based Design from 13-22nd August 2018 with King Mongkut’s university of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand as a part of their academic collaboration.
The focus was on Design with Paper Mache craft of Madhubani, Bihar. Students of both the countries worked together to develop products based on themes and stories.
Resource persons: Ms. Apirom Kongkanan: faculty of Industrial Design, KMUTT, Thailand, Ms. Surabhi Khanna and faculty team of product design, SSD, India, craft experts of Madhubani Paper mache craft
4) “Design for Playful Ideas”
Sessions conducted for design students of Pearl Academy, Noida. The session was an introduction to design and design process. The students were from various disciplines and experienced working together with many ideas and concepts, forming basis for their respective disciplines.
